On Day 5 - Friday, Deanne and I had our Shabbat dinner. Nice and calm and restful and peaceful. These are times to relax and breathe and savor food and life and all. I was the challah maker this time and I slightly overcooked the challah but they were good and big. Nice. Dinner was smoked beef Deanne has made with roasted veggies. Good.
Went off to sleep earlyish and got good rest.
On Day 6 - Saturday - we had talked and made arrangements for Fern and Arnie to come over for drinks and dinner. We all followed distancing and elbow bumping. Arnie brought a cocktail down... an american version of a negroni. Instead of gin... it used boubon and they Makers Mark bourbon he used had been soaking up flavor for a month from dates. A bit sweeter, therefore.
Dinner was nice. We will see them again, maybe in Davis, or sometime next year??? - in Philadelphia to where they are moving. Their kids live in that area.
On Day 7 0 Sunday - Deanne and I went shopping in the morning. To several places with the primary goal being to find bread flour..We didn't find any bread flour but finally did score a 25 pound bag of all-purpose flour which will do for challahs and other stuff (pies, cookies, etc).
I mostly drove and staying the car or when I went into a store (I had to see how stocks were ..) I kept away from people but Deanne would have preferred I staying in the car... I did when we got to Walmart and Pedrick Produce. I did go into Costco.. We are NOT hoarding but we have stocked up...My go-to goodies are some chips and hersheys chocolate and peanut butter.
In the early afternoon Pat's mother-in-law got to my house where she, Shirley, will live for a while. Shirley's daughter is very sick and in hospice. Her daughter, Eve, is a FIGHTER... and may come out of this on the live side. We all hope. At my house we are being careful for everyone's health. My daughters have expressed their care and concern and love... for me ... as they worry about my introducing this new person, etc... I hope all will be well... And Deanne is helping and advising.
Later in the day we heard from Deanne's brother who is in Cambodia and he is facing difficulties getting back to the US.. though he does like it there. He was going to try to suddenly fly standbye but there was not enough time for him to do all he needed/wanted to do. SO -- he is still there and we will see.
