As i sit here at services Thursday morning I can't but think... I think we know why people do not attend services... SO - why do people attend? Who are the people who attend?
answers - NO: - too long, not fulfilling (not enough spirituality or intellectuality or ???), inconvenient times (competes w/soccer, dinner, etc)
YES - ??? -
for me: a set time for some prayer and consideration of Torah, community...., singing and sounds of group prayer, support others by helping establish minyan, other???
for some: meal/food, male fellowship for Orthodox, community, other??? -- a survey needs to be done... or find some work done on this already.
AND for all: prayer (communicate w/G-d... or with the spirit of ... yourself, humanity, the universe... etc). Sometimes intellectual stimulation with commentaries and sermons...
SO: what is offered and available? Does it meet needs of wants and needs. Picks and choices... each day! Each week... etc.
The SCHOOL is central and something for the young, paid for by parenets, abandoned by most after the time learning.
ESSENTIALLY - when do we ask what people want? When? Where?

AND GOOD NEWS... My sister is getting out of the hospital... Steve said she has been there 4 weeks... sounds right. She will go home in the afternoon and then a nurse will come a 8pm and hook her up to IV and then another nurse, he said, will come in the morning, 8am - and unhook her. And then repeat going forward. There are line clearings needed to be done and other stuff the professionals know how to do... so they need the nurses, etc. Sounds great she is getting home!!! Getting out!
