Torah Reading for Chukat --
from this reading today ... I get: one: the Red Heifer conundrum is interesting in that certain time are set ... specifically NightFall - until various people are ritually impure... BUT the point that came to me was that this law is ALSO FOR THE CONVERT... raising in me the question -- why are converts specified as obligated. Are there some things converts are not obligated to do???
ALSO - relative to Moses striking the rock and therefore since he did not follow G-d's instruction he is subjected to punishment... SO - are we to always exactly follow G-d's instruction? While the best answer is YES... there was in this example ANGER...and perhaps another lesson is that mistargeted anger is a bad thing. Why be angry at the people when they are complaining about thirst and change and other difficulties they are experiencing? IF and WHEN we are angry - direct the anger appropriately and with care and moderation! Anger is a big problem for most people including me. I hope I am better at expressing my anger... and such.
It is morning .. during services... about 8:40. All's ok, well. I note that some men wear teffilin.. Someday maybe I will... the pair my Grandmother Langer gifted to me - as I sill have them from my Bar Mitzvah.
In the news... sheeshh... the world has its problems and hopes and possibilties and consequences. THE biggie is Iran this month... which ends today. We will hope to see PEACE!
And today is the birthday of my Mother - may her memory be for a blessing....
Later today -- I walk w/Ava, see Jim, maybe talk with new guy, play piano, and go to Costco to shop.
AND CLEAN HOUSE already!!!! Maybe today or tomorrow... or SOON - things are out of order.
Garden is doing OK.. no red tomatoes yes but lots of green ones on vines. Something needs doing with grapes!!!!
And the kitchen pull-out on left of stove... fix!
Shop for a car (plug ins: Rav or Prius or Lexus - though Lexus does not have a plug in) - tomorrow after checking about Costco relationship.
